East ocean alameda dim sum menu10/3/2023 The cart is out of shrimp rolls, their favorite - but no need to settle for less. Meanwhile, an elderly couple picks out a plate of steamed rice noodle rolls from another cart. There's usually a couple of places inside the Ranch 99 mall that are pretty decent + authentic for Chinese palates.Nearly every dish served during dim sum is a crowd-pleaser.Ī gaggle of twentysomethings examine the dumpling cart’s offerings, each little metal container releasing a chimney of steam as the cart lady opens it for display. Dai Mo on the other side of the parking lot was a decent place for less fancy Cantonese food. Since it was a nicer venue than Alameda East Ocean, and better food than Emeryville East Ocean, it was kind of a Chinese dinner banquet pipeline pre-Covid for the Chinese and Vietnamese crowd, not sure what they're like now since covid has changed a lot of places for the worse.Īsian Pearl in the Richmond Ranch 99 plaza was always pretty solid for Chinese seafood and dim sum. Pacific Lighthouse on the Alameda Island Yacht Harbor has a much nicer view (not as nice as East Ocean Emeryville) and pretty decent dim sum for flavor/value. This isn't unique to the area, NYC Chinatown had the same thing going on back when I was growing up on the East Coast. Since then, the Koi Palace founders opened Dragon Beaux which is a crazy popular "fusion" dim sum joint in SF, so I'd be shocked if East Ocean Emeryville was actually better.Įast Ocean Alameda is the main place our family goes to, but it has the common "Big Box Dim Sum" problem where you're basically in a giant windowless box that has been dressed up with Chinese furniture. I haven't been to Koi Palace in Daly City in about 20 years, but it was heads and shoulders above East Ocean Emeryville, even back then. But the view is awesome - its good for impressing people who don't really know what good dim sum tastes like, and who might be more impressed by the view across the bay at sunset. If you're picky about the actual dim sum, then East Ocean Emeryville is overpriced and mediocre. Yung Kee/King Kong > * for their roast duck.Ībove list is a compilation of all the great places mentioned in the comments of this post.Gum Kuo (Cantonese breakfast) in Oakland Chinatown.China Live in SF Chinatown (don't get the ghost kitchen delivery ones they're awful). It has better (imo) hand pulled noodles with sichuan flavors and spice. We’ve gone twice and think it has the best shen jian bao and xiao long bao in this area.
